Found Funny Fake – Robin Hood Fire King Sticker Mug

2 May 2012

Have you ever run across a fake while treasure hunting? I could not believe my eyes when I found this little gem at a resale shop.

$14 for a Disney Fire King mug might make sense if it were authentic, but this is a poor condition cup with a Robin Hood STICKER on one side. This doesn’t appear to be an honest mistake – like a Pyrex dish with a Fire King lid, which could easily be done by someone who does not know their kitchen ware brands.

This error seems more obvious. What do they think will happen when this is used and washed?

wrapping books and puzzles

10 September 2010

How did I manage to make my customer feel as if I treated her book with care? I took the time to treat it with care.

At my house books are paper treasure.
I am that person that avoids bumped cover corners at book stores. I never allowed my children to write on pages. We own books that have been in our family for generations. With the exception of the well used cookbooks, all are in great condition.

When I shop for books to sell I avoid anything that smells or has significant damage. When I prepare them for shipment I wrap them in tissue paper and a plastic bag. Thin softcovers are shipped with a backer board. Large hardcovers go in a box.

More trouble than some people care about? Sure. But I package for those that do care so everyone will be pleased.

What Does Back to School Time Mean To You?
It means different things for different people.
Traditionally it is the start of a new school year.  While many of the schools still have traditional school calendars, many are on a year round schedule.  Of course, colleges and universities are getting ready to start their  fall semester, signifying the start of the the “traditional” school year.

It seems that each year the lists of “needs” gets longer.  There’s new clothes, shoes, pencils, paper, book bags, book covers, back packs, and Green lunch supplies.  It means all the extracurricular activities too, sports equipment including football, wrestling, cheerleading, basketball, soccer, track, baseball, maybe hockey, gymnastics, swimming, golf and bowling.  Did I leave any out?  There is band, theater, drama,  chorus, and the list goes on and on.  Let’s not forget the teacher’s, gifts, supplies, clothing, etc.

And maybe it’s time for Moms and Dads to work on their work at home income, make some extra cash for the Holidays, or just catch up on a forgotten project.

fires in Australia

11 February 2009

I am shaken by the news reports of devastation being caused by the fires in Australia. My heart goes out to those that are suffering loss. The last news article that I read shows a death toll past 170 and thousands homeless. I think those of us in the U.S. should be looking for ways to help.
