A handmade flower from a friend

9 June 2011

My friend Yvonne has been making flowers out of all sorts of things. She has turned some old wool blankets into flower pins with button centers.  Adding this one to my purse prompted several people to ask me if I made my purse.  Of course I didn’t, but the flower sure adds a fun touch.

I don’t take baths…I just dust off.

My friend, Carol, seems to have an endless supply of one liners to go with her vintage photograph greeting cards.  Doesn’t this little guy look as pleased as punch sitting in with the chickens?

Boone County Quilt Show in Lebanon Indiana, You are invited

18 April 2011

The annual Boone County Quilt Show is a week from Saturday. If you haven’t already made plans to attend, please do. It is sure to be a great show with many quilts on display for all to admire.

We are only one of many vendors that will be set up. We will be selling books, quilting magazines, handmade goods, fabric, and miscellaneous sewing related items.

The show is Saturday, April 30th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds in the Witham Health Services Pavilion. The address is 1300 E 100 S (Interstate 65N, Exit 138) Lebanon, Indiana.

You can find more information on their facebook page.  If you look at their events page you will see the catering information as well as links to all of the vendors that will be attending.  If you need supplies to create your own sewing or quilting projects, or if you want to see some lovely quilts; this is the place to be on April 30th.

I wasn’t able to get permission to share any photographs from past shows, but you can see many beautiful quilts that they have posted.

We hope to see you there!

I have no intention of suffering alone, old photograph greeting card.

31 March 2011

My friend Carol thought of me when she was making this card…I hope it was because she knew it would make me laugh out loud.  I collect old photographs.  I also collect witty sayings and quotes.  I do not, unfortunately, have the knack of putting the two together like she does.

You can find more of Carol’s work in the handmade category of my blog.  I have no intention of enjoying them alone.

Recycling Idea For Old Books – Dick and Jane

10 March 2011

I love old books, especially childrens books.  I enjoy taking the pages out of books that are falling apart and giving them new purpose.  I made these bookmarks from old flash cards and pages from a 1946 Dick and Jane book.  The flash card paper has tanned a bit and the book was falling apart.  Together they make fun bookmarks or tags for scrapbooking.

Local Flea Market Tomorrow

5 March 2011

Our local flea market is the first Sunday of every month, 6 months inside then 6 months outside.  The outdoors sales always draw more vendors – and more shoppers.  The indoor sales, though smaller, are easier on everyone because of climate control.

I don’t set up every month, but will be there tomorrow with two friends from the old Mustard Seed store.  They always bring handmade goods.  I plan to surprise them with a few of my own crafty items this time. (With emphasis on the word few.)

If you are in the Lafayette, Indiana area please stop by the fairgrounds from 7 to 2 p.m.  We will be inside the Home Ec Building, and the building beside it, this month and next.  The larger outdoor sales will begin in May.

Old Book Hearts Make Lovely Notes

26 February 2011

I have friends that use their imaginations to turn recycling into an art.  Today I got the chance to scan a few of Carol’s newly made ”book hearts” to share with you.  She was on her way to the Kokomo show (see events on our home page) so I didn’t have time for more than a few photographs.  She plans to insert sprigs of rosemary and other herbs to add another touch of charm to these notes made from the end pages of damaged books. Each heart is creased to fold in the middle. The other side is blank for writing a few lines.

Kindred Spirits, Plain and Simple

1 December 2010

More cards, from my friend and business partner, Carol.  She makes these from her personal treasury of old photographs.

Plain and Simple is a fun play on words…but Kindred Spirits fits just as well, doesn’t it?  These poor women look so cold standing in the snow – reminding me of the white stuff in my own yard right now. Brrr!

Temperance Society, 1908

21 October 2010

Carol, my business partner, makes cards from trashed books.  It is a good way to salvage good parts of books that have lived a rough life. I loved this one so much that I bought it.  It sits on a shelf in my home next to an old family photograph of a little girl, my mother-in-law, sitting on a horse.

The caption reads: THREE MEMBERS OF A TEMPERANCE SOCIETY

Perhaps, once I finish my below mentioned organizing, I will be able to show off some cards of my own…please stay tuned.

I am a Fixin’ To

21 October 2010

A recent episode of Hoarders – my one real TV show addiction – put the finger on a hoarder’s personality trait that I am convinced I share. The expert, in the midst of cleaning out a house, garage, barn and other areas, said that the man had a case of the “Fixin’ To’s”…meaning that he was collecting items for projects that he was “fixin” to”   finish.

It is funny now extreme situations on a television episode can prompt personal changes. I am now in the process of organizing my craft area. Note that it is a small space. I do not qualify for the Hoarders show!

In the past I have jokingly said that I don’t make things, I just gather supplies. Well, there is truth in the humor.  It is time to get focused! I am making decisions regarding what I really have time to accomplish and what projects are truly enjoyable AND realistic.  Luckily, I have many creative friends that will be happy to take extra items off my hands.
