The Love of a Good Book
My wife and I are avid readers. Unluckily for us, we don’t have very much free time to read. I think if either one of us had our way we would both enjoy a job that entailed reading for a living. Since we are so short on time to be able to read printed books we have resorted to reading recorded books. Our local library is a wonderful source of recorded books. I have listened to so many of the books in the regular section that I now find myself in the young adult and children’s sections to expand my available choices. Believe it or not, I think I like the young adult section better than the regular library section because the books that are available do not contain the obligatory vulgarity and adult scenes that many fiction writers seem unable to avoid using in their stories these days.
Another source that I am really enjoying is the Audiobooks app on my Droid smart phone. The library of recorded books presented by this app contains all public domain books from LibriVox.org read by volunteers. Even though not read by professionals, many of the readers do quite well. I just finished reading “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas and thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be able to read many of the classics this way while I am driving and not forfeit the ability to enjoy reading because of time. The Librivox.org library is also available on the Internet for any who want to listen to these classic books.
To all you lovers of reading, I hope you find a way to enjoy a good book this week. It’s worth it.
