I listen to audio books while I work in my eBay store. I am currently listening to a series of books by Diane Mott Davidson. The main character is a caterer that somehow manages to end up in the middle of a different murder mystery at least once a year. The storylines are light hearted, if a murder can be light hearted, with recipes given so the readers can cook the dishes mentioned.
Today it occurred to me that we both work from home. She has a commercial kitchen, a collection of recipes, and a catering van. I have an office/packaging area, shelves of inventory, and my trusty SUV for hauling my treasures.
I could write a series of books. Maybe I will. But there will not be need for recipes. Nor will there be time for finding dead bodies and questioning strangers to find clues for the police.
My main character will be spending her time researching on the internet and sending emails. Unless the murder is mentioned on Twitter and the mailman knows the inside scoop, my character may be out of luck. And cooking? Well, the microwave nuking times are on the boxes of Lean Pockets and everyone already knows how to make a sandwich. The real mystery would be how she can find time to keep up with eBay changes and manage to eat anything at all!
